Gardens to visit:
Beth Chatto's Plants and Gardens
Some members of our society went on a wonderful trip to visit Beth Chatto's Plants and Gardens in Essex this month. The trip was organised by Dormansland Horticultural Society and was a great success!
Beth Chatto OBE was an award-winning plantswoman, author and lecturer. Her work at the gardens began in 1960. She took some overgrown wasteland and transformed it using plants adapted by nature to thrive in different conditions: right plant, right place. There are five gardens within the 7.5 acre site: Gravel garden, water garden, reservoir garden, scree garden and woodland garden.

Sussex Prairie Garden
Sussex Prairies is open until Sunday 16th October 2024, 1pm until 5pm , five days a week , closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
It is Britain’s largest “Prairie,” or “Naturalistic,” garden, with eight acres of garden to roam around.

Surrounded by mature oak trees the eight acre garden consists of a series of interlocking arcs of large planted borders in a naturalistic style. The borders encourage exploration and adventure and visitors are welcome to roam in amongst the mighty plants to further enjoy the experience.
The plantings consist of large groupings of each variety, planted in a free flowing style, which contrasts leaf forms, stems, stalks, flower shapes and textures. Colours are soft and muted, and complement the natural landscape.
